Using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with an Activision Account
An overview of the two-factor authentication security feature for Activision accounts, including how to set it up and what to do if you have any issues
on June 28, 2023 by on June 28, 2023
Add an extra layer of security to your Activision account by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA). This security feature requires a second step to verify your identity before accessing your account, providing greater protection of your account and personal information.
1. How does 2FA work?
When you have 2FA enabled, you will be asked to enter a security code each time you log in to your Activision account. After entering your email address and password, a second screen will appear asking you to enter a two-factor authentication code. The code will be generated by the authenticator app you choose* when you enable 2FA. * Authy, Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator, or Microsoft Authenticator
2. How do I set up 2FA?
- Download and install a supported authenticator app* on your smartphone or tablet.
- Log in to your Activision account.
- Go to the PRIVACY & SETTINGS section.
- Select ENABLE TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION.
- Check your inbox for an email with a code. Enter the code to confirm you’re the owner of the account.
- Please note:You will only need to confirm you own an account once per login session. If you’ve already confirmed to make other changes to your account, you will not need to confirm again.
- Open the authenticator app to add your Activision account.
- Authy: Select Add Account and Scan QR Code
- Duo Mobile: Select Use a QR code
- Google Authenticator: Tap the plus (+) sign and select Scan a QR code
- Microsoft Authenticator: Tap the plus (+) sign to add account and select Other for type of account
- Tap ADD ACCOUNT in the authenticator app.
- Enter your Activision account password, then enter the 6-digit authentication code from the authenticator app (listed under Activision).
- Select Activate to complete the setup.
After setting up 2FA, you will also be given ten backup codes to use if you can’t access your authenticator app.
Be sure to keep your backup codes somewhere safe but accessible. Since the backup codes are mainly used when you cannot access your authenticator app, we recommend keeping your backup codes somewhere other than on the device with the app.
IMPORTANT! Backup codes should not be used as the primary way to log in to your account. Only use a backup code when you cannot access your authenticator app (e.g., lost, broken, or new device). If you get a new device, be sure to disable and then reenable 2FA on your Activision account using a supported authenticator app* on your new device.
* Authy, Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator, or Microsoft Authenticator
3. What should I do if I can’t access my authenticator app? Do I use a backup code instead?
Yes. If you’re ever unable to access your authenticator app (e.g., you lose or misplace your device), you can log in to your account using one of the backup codes you received when setting up 2FA.
Enter your email address and password, then enter one of the backup codes to access your Activision account.
For security reasons, you may use each backup code one time only.
4. What should I do if I run out of backup codes?
Backup codes should not be used as the primary way to log in to your account. Only use a backup code when you cannot access your authenticator app (e.g., lost, broken, or new device). If you get a new device, be sure to disable and then reenable 2FA on your Activision account using a supported authenticator app* on your new device.
If you run out of backup codes, you will need to reach out to us for help .
* Authy, Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator, or Microsoft Authenticator
5. What should I do if I enter a 2FA code but still can’t access my account?
Security codes generated by authenticator app will expire. Allow the app to generate a new code and try again.
If you continue to have issues with 2FA, please reach out to us for help.

Set up two-factor authentication
For an added layer of security, t urn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Slack account. If your password is compromised or stolen, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that only you can sign in.
How 2FA works:
- You’ll need access to your mobile phone when you sign in to Slack.
- You’ll enter a verification code and your password each time you sign in.
- You can choose to send your verification code by text message (SMS) or from an authentication app but owners can require an authentication app if they’d like.
- On paid plans, owners and admins must use 2FA when signing in to Slack, even if they haven’t enabled mandatory 2FA. For workspaces or orgs with SSO enabled, only owners and admins who are able to sign in via email and password and bypass SSO are required to set up 2FA.

Step 1: Download and install an authentication app
Before you can set up 2FA on your account, you’ll need to download and install an authentication app on your device. Slack 2FA can be used with most Time-Based, One-Time Password (TOTP) applications. Here are a few options to get you started:
- iPhone:Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, 1Password, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator
- Android:Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, 1Password, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator
Note: Slack doesn’t support Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) yet.
Step 2: Turn on 2FA in Slack
- Sign in to the appropriate workspace, and visit your Account page at my.slack.com/account/settings.
- Next to Two-factor Authentication, click Expand. Then, click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.
- Enter your password, and click Use an app to retrieve authentication codes from the authentication app on your device.

Backup codes
If you lose your phone or you’ve deleted your authentication app, you can use one of your backup codes to sign in. Use any code to sign in, but keep in mind that each code can only be used once. Your backup codes were provided at the time you set up 2FA, but you can always find them on your Account page.
Tip: Make a copy of your codes and save them someplace safe.
Locked out?
If you got a new phone or don’t have access to your backup codes, you can ask a Workspace Owner or Admin to manually disable 2FA for your account. If you’re a Workspace Owner and you can’t sign in, you’ll need to contact the Workspace Primary Owner to help.
Please give these instructions to a Workspace Owner or Admin to help you disable 2FA on your account:

- From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Manage members.
- Click the three dots icon to the right of the member you’d like to manage.
- Click Disable two-factor authentication.

Two-step authentication using a security key
To use this form of authentication, you need to migrate your Shopify accounts to use your Shopify account.
You can use a security key that’s compatible with the WebAuthn standard as a second factor for logging in to your account. To enable two-step authentication with a security key, you need a compatible browser and a compatible security key. After you enroll a new security key on your account, you are prompted to activate the security key whenever you log in.
To avoid being locked out of your account, you can enroll multiple security keys and multiple two-step authentication methods.
The following browsers are compatible with security keys:
- Google Chrome for desktop version 67 and above
- Mozilla Firefox for desktop version 60 and above
- Google Chrome for Android version 73 and above
- Mozilla Firefox for Android version 66 and above
- Microsoft Edge version 18 and above
- Opera version 54 and above
- Safari Technology Preview 83 or later
- Brave for iOS version 1.11.3 and above
Caution
Security keys with biometric capabilities do not work in private browsing sessions.
Recommended device manufacturers include the following:
Steps
- From your Shopify admin, click your username and account picture.
- Click Manage account >Security.
- In the Two-step authentication section, click Turn on two-step.
- Enter your password, and then click Next.
- From the Authentication method list, select Security key.
- Enter a name for your security key, and then click Turn on.
- Click USB security key.
- Activate your security key. You are provided with a list of 10 recovery codes.
- Save your recovery codes in case you lose access to your mobile device. Make sure that you store them in a safe location offline that you can access in multiple ways, such as from your mobile device, your desktop computer, and from a printed document.
Now when you try to log in, your security key needs to be connected to your device for two-step authentication.
Two-step Login via Authenticator
Two-step login using a third-party authenticator app (for example, 2FAS, Ravio, or Aegis) is available for free to all Bitwarden users.
note
Some authenticator apps, such as Google Authenticator, do not automatically backup your 2FA tokens for easy migration to a new mobile device. In these cases, you should manually save each token’s authenticator recovery codes.
Other apps, such as Authy, do support backup and sync across devices. In these cases, be sure to set a strong backup password and keep a record of it in your Bitwarden vault.
Setup an authenticator
To enable two-step login using an authenticator app:
warning
Losing access to your two-step login device can permanently lock you out of your vault unless you write down and keep your two-step login recovery code in a safe place or have an alternate two-step login method enabled and available.
Get your recovery code from the Two-step login screen immediately after enabling any method.
- Log in to your web vault.
- Select the profile icon and choose AccountSettings from the dropdown:

- Select the Security page and the Two-step Login tab:

- Locate the Authenticator App option and select the Manage button:

You will be prompted to enter your master password to continue. - Scan the QR code with your authenticator app of choice. If you don’t have an authenticator app on your mobile device yet, download one and scan the QR code. We recommend Authy.
- Once scanned, your authenticator app will return a six-digit verification code. Enter the code in the dialog box in your web vault and select the Enable button. A green Enabled message will indicate that two-step login via authenticator has been enabled.
- Select the Close button and confirm that the Authenticator App option now is enabled, as indicated by a green checkbox ( ).
note
We recommend keeping your active web vault tab open before proceeding to test two-step login in case something was misconfigured. Once you have confirmed it’s working, logout of all your Bitwarden apps to require two-step login for each. You will eventually be logged out automatically.
Setup on multiple devices
If your Bitwarden account is used across multiple devices, 2FA can be enabled to work with additional compatible devices. To add 2FA to an additional device, follow the steps above and scan the QR code with your additional device or manually enter the QR key to enable 2FA on the additional device.
Use an authenticator
The following assumes that Authenticator App is your highest-priority enabled method. To access your vault using an authenticator:
- Log in to your Bitwarden vault on any app and enter your email address and master password. You will be prompted to enter the six-digit verification code from your authenticator app.
- Open your authenticator app and find the six-digit verification code for your Bitwarden vault. Enter this code on the vault login screen. Typically, verification codes will change every 30 seconds.
tip
Check the Remember Me box to remember your device for 30 days. Remembering your device will mean you won’t be required to complete your two-step login step.
You will not be required to complete your secondary two-step login step to Unlock your vault once logged in. For help configuring log out vs. lock behavior, see vault timeout options.
